Gray Foundation Appeal to Close THIS MONTH!

Suttle Lake Camp (green thermometer) and Camp Magruder (blue thermometer) are both closing in on their September 30 deadline for the Gray Family Foundation 2-fold matching gift grant.

This means if we can raise $17,500 for each camp, the foundation will grant each of them $35,000 for a total of $52,000 each! The goal of the grant is to help camps with maintenance costs associated with existing buildings and structures. In-kind donations of time and energy toward maintenance projects also count toward the grants' goal.

For nonprofit hospitality centers, $52,000 represents a significant boost to infrastructure maintenance needs.

For instance, Magruder plans to make needed improvements to the Atwood Bath House that serves those staying in the “rustic” cabins that do not have indoor plumbing. Priorities at Suttle Lake include resurfacing the dock, replacing the carpet in Pioneer Lodge, and replacing bottom bunk mattresses in Wesley Meadow Lodge and the most commonly used cabins.

Wallowa Lake Supporter Sherrill Moore Passes On

Among many other activities, Sherrill Moore was a powerful Wallowa Lake Camp supporter. When there was strong support for the camp to be closed and sold in the 1990s, she was one of the 1007 friends who fought to keep the camp open. We are thankful she and the many others did, as we cannot imagine our current program without Wallowa Lake! Sherrill was a donor, a camper, and  a volunteer, mostly as a nurse. Furthermore, she had long been an advocate for wilderness preservation in Oregon for several decades, including being an active voice for the "Oregon Beach Bill in 1967, which established public access to Oregon's beaches."

We are honored to be associated with the likes of Sherrill - and to be the recipients of her joy, passion, and commitment!
