The intention is to send you a brief but content-rich e-mail each week on Tuesdays which you can scan quickly and use the links to go to the information you need. Each week will have a different focus, which will repeat each month. The focus of the premier issue in this new format is Missions! I welcome your feedback - Linda Grund-Clampit, Cascadia District Administrative Assistant
Homelessness: Relationships and Responses
Methodist Federation for Social Action is presenting a one-day event on Saturday, October 15 at Tigard UMC, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., entitled "Homelessness: Relationships and Responses". You are invited to join them as they seek to understand the human face, scope and cause of homelessness; learn about what individuals and congregations can do to respond to homelessness effectively; and look at how responses can make a transformational difference in people’s lives- from providing services to becoming an advocate. Learn more about the presenters at www.oimfsa.org

Three Ways to Generate UMCOR Relief Kits
Send Money
Collecting money for kits and supplies is efficient and gets what is needed where it is needed when it is needed. You can send it through your church to the Conference. Make the check out to your church, with ADVANCE # 901440 on the memo line. Or you can give online
Make Kits at Your Local Church
There is an urgent need for cleaning buckets and supplies to be sent to the southeast U.S. for the floods. Transportation has been arranged to pick up buckets, etc. from our conference and transport them to West Depot. We thought we might collect 50 buckets but there are promises of 300 buckets. What a gift! Contact Becky Platt, beckyplatt1@peoplepc.com for more information. IDEA! Bring a 5 gallon bucket filled with cleaning supplies to church for the children's story time. Let the children tell you what all the supplies are used for. A complete list can be found on the UMCOR website under "Relief supplies".
Go to Kit Kamp!
Come to Camp Magruder, October 27-30 (Thursday - Sunday) to sew school bags and layette items for the relief kits that go to UMCOR West Depot. If you can't come for the full time, come for part!. We will be staying in Edwards Lodge which is all on the first floor - work space and bedrooms/bathrooms. Join us for fun, spiritual renewal and a walk on the beach.See the flyer here. For more information and to register, go to gocamping.org
Early Response Team Training
Learn to help survivors in the early days following a disaster. This all-day training on Saturday, October 22, at Lake Oswego UMC will focus on learning the language of emergency response, practical things that can be done to help survivors be safe, sanitary and secure, and a brief introduction to spiritual and emotional care. The training is open to anyone interested in this ministry (UMC or not). A $25 fee includes lunch and materials. Optional certification at the completion of the class requires a background check and safe sanctuaries training (this will be discussed at the class). A minimum of 10 participants is required to hold the class so if you are interested please register online soon. Questions? Contact Becky Platt, Conference UMVIM Coordinator, at beckyplatt1@peoplepc.com, or Sally Blanchard, co-chair of LOUMC’s Emergency Preparedness Team, at sally.blanchard@comcast.net.
(Please ignore the funny formatting at the bottom of this e-mail - all part of the transition . . . We hope to have it fixed by next week!)
