See Yourself on a Birding Adventure in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge!

Spring Birding and Natural History Camp for Adults: May 28 - June 2 hosted by Suttle Lake Camp and Malheur National Wildlife Refuge!

This year is going to be an excellent year for birding at the Malheur Refuge, south of Burns, Oregon!  There is plenty of water on the refuge - essential to quality waterfowl viewing, and Refuge HQ is now open again following last year’s occupation.

Although the conditions look fantastic and we have our fearless leader Jim Monroe back… registrations have been slow.  I think it is hard to realize spring is here after a rather hard winter and late spring

We are checking with you because you have participated in past years and know the value of this amazing trip.  If you were thinking of registering but hadn’t gotten around to doing so or if you know of someone else who is interested in attending… either call the registrar (Geneva Cook) at 503-802-9213 or go on-line and register on the gocamping.org  website (CLICK HERE TO REGISTER)

We need to assess the feasibility and decide if we have enough interest for the event this year.   We will need to decide this week, so contact us now if you are interested!

This year’s birding camp is scheduled for May 28-June2 (Sun-Fri) and the cost is $699 which includes all transportation (from Suttle Lake United Methodist Church Camp), all lodging, all meals - including a supper at historic Diamond Hotel - and good fellowship!  We will stay at the Malheur Field Station - and you can even see where George Foreman once held boxing matches.  Birding, manageable hiking, a day long trip with Duncan Evered (naturalist at the Field Station), lots of cowboy history and natural history and singing coyotes: All await you!

Magruder Introduces Executive Chef

Camp Magruder is excited to announce our new Executive Chef, Nick Atkins. His influence will continue Magruder’s reputation for serving tasty food made from quality ingredients with special attention to locally sourced. Nick began work with Magruder the beginning of March, and our guests and staff have already enjoyed many wonderful meals prepared under his guidance.

Nick is Oregon born and raised but has traveled all over the world, spending years in Hawaii, New Zealand, British Columbia, Mexico, Greece, and also Paris, France where he studied at the Conrad Hilton. He came to Magruder from Seattle, where we worked in the restaurant industry. Nick began looking for ways to get out of the city and make a bigger difference in the world and it landed him with us. He also loves ocean swimming and diving, sailing and windboarding, and tai chi to start his mornings.

Nick brings a warm spirit and his kind grin to life at camp. We are excited about the ways his presence and work will help us further our mission of providing Christian hospitality to every camper and guest group who visits, not to mention the good it will do for our taste buds and stomachs.
