While many of us are focused on the Annual Conference Session this next week, there are other things going on in the church!

Peace with Justice Sunday is usually celebrated this coming Sunday, June 11. You can participate with other UMs around our connection to make a real difference.  If you can't observe it this Sunday, plan for it on another Sunday.

Another way to make a difference in our communities is to learn how to communicate with our neighbors.  The Greater NW Area is offering a Spanish Immersion experience for church leaders.  Check it out in the Resources section!

I'll be at the AC Session in Portland next week, along with many of the rest of you!  Plan to stop by or follow the action online.  There will be no district newsletter next week, but on June 20th we'll have an update on all that happened!

Thank you for your leadership in the local church -- that is where Jesus is touching lives -- through you!

Blessings,

Annual Conference Session June 14-17

The Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest Conferences of The United Methodist Church will meet together in a shared annual conference session June 14-17 at the Red Lion on the River - Jantzen Beach in Portland, Oregon.

We've been talking and planning for months and now it is finally here!

Today is the last chance to register online, both for members and for visitors.  If you are planning to attend, go to www.greaternw.org/ac2017 to register today!

But there are events for which you do not have to register.  You can attend the worship services, which are always wonderful:

  • Wednesday evening, 7 p.m., Installation Service for Bishop Stanovsky
  • Thursday evening, 7 p.m. Memorial Service
  • Saturday afternoon 2 p.m. Ordination and Commissioning Service

You can come as a guest during any of the business and observe.  See the full schedule here: greaternw.org/ac2017/home/conference-schedule/

Or you can follow along at home via live streaming.  Check the conference website during the event to find the link: www.umoi.org or at greaternw.org/ac2017  The conference FB page will also be keeping up with all the action.

And, if you want to find the materials for the business considerations and reports, check them out at greaternw.org/ac2017/downloads/

Health Kit Contents

Health Kit contents

UMCOR Relief Kits will be Gathered at AC

Remember to bring your United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) relief kits to Annual Conference!

The emphasis is on Health Kits, but any items for any kits are welcome.

You can find the list of items for kits on the UMCOR website under Relief Supplies at www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies  Put the kits and the items in large, sturdy plastic bags because boxes take up more room in transportation. If you are bringing flood buckets (aka cleanup kits) to AC, please let Becky Platt know (contact information below). We need these too, but they take a lot of space and we need to try to right-size the transportation.
We cannot accept monetary donations at the AC Session.    Any money for this effort goes through your church treasurer to the Conference office. Mark all checks Advance  #901440. This is the account for UMCOR relief supplies.

There will be a pickup truck in the parking lot at the Red Lion where you can leave your kits on Wednesday, June 14th from 1 PM to 7 PM,   On Thursday and Friday, bring kits and loose items to the UMCOR table in the lobby

For more information, contact Donna Waltman, OR-ID Conference liaison to UMCOR West Depot at  503-622-3226, dgwaltman@frontier.com or Becky Platt, UMVIM Conference coordinator, 503-680-5015, beckyplatt1@peoplepc.com.

Peace with Justice Sunday bulletin insert

"Peace with Justice Sunday Bulletin Insert"

Peace With Justice Sunday, July 11

In Arizona border towns, communities facing social challenges are dramatically divided. In Liberian villages, citizens’ human rights are being violated. In local U.S. communities, women and girls are being bought and sold against their will.

Moved by Christ’s love to pursue reconciliation and peace, honoring the dignity of every individual made in God’s image, The United Methodist Church is unwilling to turn a blind eye to injustice.

Although you, and possibly even your congregation, may lack the resources alone to effect change in a broken world, your giving is vital for the UMC to continue its global ministries of reconciliation. Because of the Peace with Justice Sunday offering, the people of The United Methodist Church are able to make a difference together by sowing seeds - and yielding fruit! - of peace
