Strength for the Journey Needs Transportation for 2 Wheelchairs

Camp and Retreat Ministries' event for people living with HIV/AIDS, "Strength for the Journey," at Suttle Lake Camp is in need of transportation for heavy two motorized wheelchairs, but not their people, who will be traveling in community on a separate bus. There just isn't room on the bus for these chairs.

Details: Departure from Portland First UMC is Thurs. August 17, 10AM for a 2.5 hour trip to Sisters, OR. Return date from Suttle Lake is August 20, departing at 12:30PM.

If you have a large truck and/or trailer with ramps (these things are HEAVY), please contact Eric Conklin at eric@gocamping.org. This photo is from last year's event - look at all those wonderful people!

Camp & God's Kingdom

from The Presbyterian Outlook, an online publication of the Presbyterian Church, USA

Be inspired by this powerful witness from Shelly Wood, a Presbyterian pastor and camp mom.

A week of church camp is a shedding of external influences and a time when one puts on the Body of Christ. It is a transformative and life-giving experience in which all are invited to be their best selves. This shedding and re-birthing is done in community. It’s done around tables where bread is passed and drinks are poured. It’s done in faith sharing and Bible study and conversations that are real and honest and accepting. Camp models what it means to live in community as the body of Christ.

Wood goes on to describe the role camp can play in addressing the health crisis of loneliness, as well as its power to create and transform the future Church.  Read on and share!
