Fall Quilting Workshop at Latgawa: October 1-4, 2015

This class has been called “liberating” by those who have taken it. Each attendee will take home their own unique Willows & Waterlilies art quilt.

We’ll start off the weekend on Thursday afternoon, with a short and easy, guided nature walk. You’ll learn about the flora and fauna of the camp and discover ways of interpreting what you see into fabric art. The first workshop Instructed Sew time will be on Thursday afternoon. Each day thereafter, you’ll have Instructed Sew lessons, plus some Free Sew time.

In addition to all the healthy and delicious meals, you are invited to join us for "S'more Fun" on Thursday night, where we’ll have lots of scrumptious ingredients for you to become a real S'mores gourmand!

Campers will stay in Ephesus Lodge. The rooms are double occupancy. Private restrooms and showers are just down the hall. Please bring your own bedding, pillow and towels. Ephesus Lodge has a deck that overlooks the creek and beautiful forestland.

 

Registration space is limited. Each person will have their own dedicated work table, and there will be plenty of design wall space.

Retreats Offer Many Ways to Express Gratitude

If the only experience one feels at Camp and Retreat Ministry sites is gracious hospitality offered in the forms of friendly faces, a nice place to sleep, and wholesome, tasty food, then camp and retreat staffs have gone a long way in completing their mission.

The hospitality itself is offered as the staff's expression of gratitude for the amazing ministries happening before, during, and after an event.

And, by receiving that hospitality, guests are able to express their own gratitude for the gifts they have received during their stay.

Here is one such acknowledgment from a recent guest at Alton L. Collins Retreat Center:

Hi Todd,

I really appreciate the care that the staff puts into making our annual chamber music retreat so fantastic. The thoughtfulness - such as making ice-water available at each venue, clearing out the couches in the library, setting up the sheet music tables in the dining area, etc,etc,etc  all noted and very appreciated. 
 
Most importantly, the feeling of sanctuary and being welcomed by you, Laura, and Megan reminds me of something Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

L.A.S.T Builds Bridges... and A Lot More!

August 2016 marked the 6th summer season of L.A.S.T. (Learning and Serving Together).   L.A.S.T. is a non-profit that plans and leads week long or weekend mission trip experiences for youth and young adults. We have sites located in Portland and Eugene.  L.A.S.T. is led by Rev. Jeff Lowery a United Methodist Deacon.

This summer we led 7 full weeks and 2 weekends of mission experiences.  Some participants came from local Portland congregations while others traveled from as far away as Cheyenne, Wyoming and Ogden, Utah.  We had 237 participants this summer which totaled more than 3792 hours of community service.  Youth served meals at soup kitchens, sorted food and clothing donations, painted houses at a homeless encampment and learned to care for God’s creation.  Each evening the youth were able to connect their faith to their service and learn more about the root causes of poverty.

Some of the highlights of the summer were

  • a successful pilot project in Seattle
  • a week of service with a group of college interns from the Southeast
  • our largest and most ecumenical group ever (49 participants from United Methodist, Presbyterian and Lutheran congregations)
  • a leader reporting that a youth in her group opened a Bible for the very first time in her life on the mission trip.
