An Invitation from the District Lay Leader
A few years ago, the Oregon-Idaho Conference was asked to read Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations by Bishop Robert Schnase. One of the practices is passionate worship.
In the Oregon-Idaho Conference (including the Cascadia District), the laity are often called upon to plan or lead all or a portion of a worship service. In some local churches, laity lead worship on a regular basis…quarterly, monthly, weekly. So how do we learn to prepare and lead passionate worship?
Reverend Peg Lofsvold has agreed to facilitate Designing and Leading Worship at Astoria United Methodist Church. This two-session class is for any lay person who is involved in planning or leading worship. (BONUS: The class also qualifies for credit as one of the required advanced classes for certified lay servants.) Teams from local churches are encouraged to attend together.
A class providing useful information with a GREAT facilitator? I know you can hardly wait to register. So here is everything you need to know:
Title: DESIGNING AND LEADING WORSHIP

Location: Astoria United Methodist Church, 1076 Franklin Avenue, Astoria, OR 97103
Dates: February 17 and March 10 (must attend both sessions for certification credit)
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- First Session: Participants will discover meaningful patterns for worship, explore ways to illuminate Scripture and prayer, and practice key roles of worship teams and leaders.
- Second Session: Participants will present elements of worship, explore worship settings other than Sunday morning, and receive helpful feedback for growth as worship leaders.
Between sessions, participants will prepare elements of worship to present at the second session.
Required Text: The text for the class is Leading Worship by Taylor Burton-Edwards (provided with paid registration). Additional resources will be provided at each session. A browsing library will be available, too.
Registration Fee: The registration fee of $30.00 (collected at the first session) covers the text and lunch.

One last thing, we need a minimum of 6 registered participants to hold the class. So don’t wait…register today.
