AC Update #2

AC Updates will be emailed every other week with hot-off-the-presses news and tips on getting the most out of the conference.

Note for lay persons: If you are not the lay member attending from your church this year, please contact your district office right away so we can send communications to the correct person. Thank you.

Worship and Offerings

Three of this year's four worship services at the Annual Conference will be held in the sanctuary at Eugene First UMC . There will be shuttle buses from the Hotel Eugene. If you choose to walk, it is .8 of a mile through downtown Eugene. Everyone is welcome!

  • Weds, June 12, 7:00 PM Opening Worship with Rev. Kathleen Weber preaching. The offering will go to ensuring that our brothers and sisters of the Alaska Conference can send a full delegation to next year’s shared Annual Conference (2020). The offering will go towards defraying travel and lodging costs from Alaska.
  • Thursday, June 13, 4:30 PM Memorial Worship with Rev. Carlo Rapanut preaching. The offering will be for CONAM’s Huckleberry Camp.  Huckleberry Family Camp is hosted by the Council on Native American Ministries (CONAM) in partnership with the Wilshire United Methodist Church.  Families connect with Native American traditions, values, and cultural and spiritual experiences.
  • Friday, June 14, 7:30 PM Ordination/Commissioning Worship with Rev. Lowell Greathouse preaching. The offering will be for Eugene’s Egan Warming Center. The Egan Warming Center is a coalition of community members representing service providers, religious congregations, nonprofit support agencies, social activist communities and local government who have come together to ensure that homeless people in Lane County have a warm and safe place to sleep when temperatures drop below 30 degrees between November 15th and March 31st.
  • Saturday, June 15, 11:15 AM Closing Worship and Appointments with Bishop Elaine J.W. Stanovsky preaching. This Worship service will be in Playwrights Hall at Hotel Eugene.

There will be an opportunity for donations to be given via credit/debit cards this year.

UMCOR kits will NOT be collected at the Conference this year

A note from Donna Waltman, UMCOR West Depot Transportation Coordinator: There will be NO collection of kit items at Annual Conference this June. Steve Matthews will be picking up items next October at the collection point churches to transport to West Depot. If your church would like to assist Steve with his travel expenses to the Depot, the account in the Conference office designated for that is #1-44-320-5499.

Two truck loads of cleaning buckets from West Depot was sent to the flooded areas in the midwest recently. Many thanks to those who contributed. You don't have to put a whole bucket of supplies together. Collect individual items. Often times when there are floods, there are no local supplies available so a truckload of cleaning buckets is greatly appreciated. All items are put together at West Depot and teams check the buckets for the correct items.

There are openings for teams to work at West Depot. Contact Rev. Brian Diggs bdiggs@umcor.org for details.

Don't miss the Banquet and Awards Night

New for 2019, the annual banquet and awards will be on Thursday evening, instead of Friday.  It will begin at 7:00 PM in Playwrights Hall at Hotel Eugene and conclude around 8:30 - 9:00 PM. The Bishop's award and three other awards will be presented after dinner and there will be celebrations of retirement to honor Conference Mission and Ministry Coordinator Rev. Lowell Greathouse and Conference Communications Director Greg Nelson.

Live music, fun emcees, four top awards, lively fellowship and a great dinner with a chocolate dessert - you don't want to miss this!

(If you have not registered yet, you may add the banquet on your registration form.  If you have already registered and would like to add the banquet ticket, you may use the link in your registration confirmation email to go back into your registration and add or change any meals.  If you need help, call your district office. There will be some chairs in the back of the room for those who wish to watch the awards and retirement celebrations without purchasing the meal.)
