Dear Readers,

I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying cold lemonade, sitting under a shade tree, cooling off at the coast or in a mountain lake or perhaps, like me, enjoying the modern comforts of an air conditioned home!

After a hectic spring that wrapped itself up with Annual Conference at the end of June, many of us have tried to have some respite in July - even though we know it's a new appointment year and many clergy and pastoral leaders are settling into new homes in new communities with their families.

As you'll read in this month's newsletter, there is still a lot of ministry work being done across the Oregon-Idaho Conference. The spirit moves through us, even when we think we've got nothing left in our tank, and propels us into new seasons of ministry! May you find rest and the deep well of energy needed to carry on.

Disaster kits in short supply across the Conference

As wildfire season ramps up across the western United States, Oregon-Idaho Conference interim disaster response coordinator Louise Kienzle is sounding the alarm on a low supply of disaster kits across the Conference. The  hope is that churches and ministry settings can either a) make more kits (there are various types that can be made) or b) contribute to the Disaster Response Fund to help out. | Read more of this story on the Conference website to help.

The Cells Remember: Safe Sanctuaries training

The Oregon-Idaho Conference Safe Sanctuaries team is providing a 90-minute Zoom training on Aug. 16, starting at 6 p.m. PT, 7 p.m. MT called "The Cells Remember" to talk about trauma. In the gathering there will be discussions about what trauma is, how it affects our lives, and how as a spiritual community we can learn self-care. The Zoom training will include two guest presenters: Robert Marrs, LCSW, speaking on the "The Cells Remember: The Impact of Trauma" as well as Kristi and Mel Phillips discussing "The Church's Response to Trauma." The event is free, but registration is required. | Visit the  Conference website to learn more.
