It's the time of year where life gets a little bit hectic. School is now in full swing, church programs are gearing up, it's sports seasons of all kinds (go Dodgers) and charge conferences are happening.
There's all kinds of metaphors about fall being a season of letting go. But I see it as a time to be still and try and be present.
Walking my son to the park last week, I looked up and noticed this single leaf on one tree turned red. I knew in a matter of a a few days, one or several more leaves would join that red leaf in revealing their autumn hues.
I marveled at the beauty of the singular leaf but at the same time thought about the leaves that would soon join it, and remembered that often used Margaret Mead quote and how it relates to our collective work as followers of Christ. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it's the only thing that ever has."
As we change seasons, as life evolves, may we be reminded that we are the collective leaves of humanity, bringing the brightness of God's love into our world.
